Christmas, My Way!

And just like that, Christmas 2011 is over.
The day might be done, but the spirit lives on til January. Thats how Pinoys celebrate Christmas.

But, let me tell you how one certain Pinoy spends Christmas. Well, obviously, that "One Pinoy" is me...who else?!

My christmas season usually starts around the latter part of november. Where halloween and All Souls Day is done and kids are on holiday vacation. When people, establishments, malls are putting up their decorations, suddenly the streets are beaming with christmas lights and the only songs you hear are for Christmas. Come 1st week of December, my wife, together with our kids, assemble our Xmas Tree (yep, thats how we do it here in the PI, due to lack of Pine Trees in Baguio, we all have to make do with artificial trees). Its also a treat to see parols lighting up the night and people walking on their way to attend simbang gabi. We dont buy gifts till Im on vacation from work, and thats usually on the 20th. From this day on the shopping frenzy begins, the mad rush for gifts starts, the mind-bending process of coming-up-with-a-gift is inevitable. I do it for the heck of it, but its the part I hate the most. I mean dont get me wrong, I love giving gifts and all, but the whole process sucks. But after buying and wrapping all your gifts, you send them, give em, hand em, hoping that they'll like it. And then, 24 comes and everybody opens their gifts. Seeing the smiles on their faces after they open their gifts gets me on a natural high. The thought of picking the right gift for a certain person makes me happy and satisfied. The highlight of the Christmas season for me is the misa de gallo every 24th of Dec. It is the pinnacle of the season. The coolness of the weather, the warm smiles of families around, the twinkling of the Xmas lights and parols, and most especially the Christmas spirit, the reason for all of these celebration can be felt all around and that is the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ!

So...from my heart to yours, I greet you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
